Many of you are going to join us and want to connect to the MSU Network. Network security is a serious concern and the exceptional team in the Networking division have worked with us to make sure that we get you connected while at the same time keeping the network secure.
LAPTOP USERS
It is advised that you have the most recent version of an antivirus program installed and working on your laptop. It is also ESSENTIAL that you have the latest patch and service pack update for your operating system. When you attempt to register your computer on the MSU network it will look for these two things and if they are not present, you will have to do that update before you’ll be allowed to connect. Check now, and then check again a day or two before joining us. This will make things much easier once you get here.
MOBILE DEVICES USERS
This includes iPad, iPhone, Droids, Blackberrys, basically any non-computer mobile device that can be configured to attach to the network. You will follow the instructions below only to a certain point, see below for details
Once you are have signed in for the conference at the Registration Area, please follow these simple steps:
1) Open a web browser on your computer or mobile device. If not automatically directed to the Net Access page, please enter the following URL in your web browser: http://netaccess.montclair.edu/registration. You will see the following page

The Registration Welcome page will tell you everything that is needed in order to make it through the process to register your computer on the network. Please read this page and then decide if you want to connect to the network. If you do, at the very bottom of this page you will see a decline/accept option and then a greyed-out NEXT button.

If you agree to have your computer checked, click the ACCEPT option and the NEXT button will become available. Once it become available, click the NEXT button. This will bring you to the MSU Policy on Responsible Use of University Computing Resources (which includes the MSU Network). Please read the policy and if you wish to connect to the network, select the ACCEPT option and then the NEXT button.

If you are an MSU employee registering a device you’ve not added to the MSU network, select START next to STUDENTS, FACULTY, and STAFF. If you are not an MSU employee, please select START next to SPONSORED GUEST.

MSU Employees will be prompted for their NetID and Password. If you selected Sponsored Guest, you will be taken to the page below which will ask you for your USERNAME and PASSWORD, your Full Name, Email Address, and Reason for Visit.

The USERNAME and PASSWORD will be available to you at the REGISTRATION AREA. In the REASON FOR VISIT, please put ELD11.
For those using a mobile device, once you select DOWNLOAD you will see a message telling you that the process is moving forward and then shortly afterward you will see another notification telling you that you now have access to the network. Nothing has been downloaded onto your mobile device (since it can’t be).
For those using LAPTOPS (this includes Netbooks),
- When you select DOWNLOAD you will be prompted to run the Dissolvable Client Security Agent
- The agent will be downloaded to your computer, how the file runs will depend on your OS and Web Browser
- Locate the file (probably in your DOWNLOADS folder) and execute (Windows) or run (Mac) the program
- A progress meter for the agent execution will be displayed
- Click OK and CLOSE to reopen your browser when instructed to do so
If your machine is up-to-date with your anti-virus program and system patches, NetAccess will show the scan has successfully been completed. You should have access to the Internet.
